This is a shallow, really anachronistic conception of what a renaissance polymath is. The Renaissance didn't happen because people wanted to broaden their business opportunities and while you may have just brought up polymaths to simply make that business point, it really gets rid of the whole concept of polymathy. The idea in the Renaissance was you grow upwards. It's based in a Christian conception of sanctification that redeveloped ancient ideas on living which were being reintroduced to them. Leonardo Da Vinci was a painter who, from that perspective, and grew into other mediums, physics, inventions etc with these all developing upon each other to give a single broader conception of themselves in reality. You can trace Da Vinci's interest in physics to his interest in painting and representing the world more accurately. There's a base with a passion that grows organically. It's not grab as many certificates so businesses won't fire you. If it has anything to do with money then you're not talking about Renaissance polymathy as some of them could be extremely lazy including da vinci twin terms of actually finishing commissions. Renaissance polymathy is not the ideal you want for your business, I'm sorry. I know it gets the creative energies bursting but it does not apply here.

Keep in mind this Renaissance polymath was very different in nature to the Enlightenment gentleman, who was their archetype, which focused less on growth and more on knowledge being equally grasped (based on a preference for salvation and conceiving of reason through that which granted completely different ethics).
